Packing Tips
Start preparing to pack a few weeks before you travel. Keep an ongoing list of items to bring, or put items out on a table or chest of drawers as you think of them
  • use a baby bag with a waterproof lining and a shoulder strap
  • pack an extra shirt or top for yourself in your hand luggage in case of accidents
  • prevent leaks by packing medicines and toiletries in re-sealable plastic bags
  • bring a 60cm square of plastic or a changing mat to put under your baby during nappy changes
  • keep an energy-boosting snack handy for yourself
  • bring your camera and plenty of film or digital memory cards
  • bring a clip-on reading light so you can read without disturbing your baby

Sharing Is Caring: Tips for Long-Distance Driving During Festive Season

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is just around the corner. How's your preparation for Raya?

For us, is just simple only. This year, we'll be going back to Kedah to celebrate our Raya. Since this is the first time for us Raya with a baby, we couldn't expect how it will be during the journey to Kedah. I read tips from Babycenter for this long-distance journey.

Traffic and road travel essentials
Make sure you have a mobile phone charger that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter hold.

Programme these numbers into your mobile, in case of emergencies:

Automobile Association Malaysia emergency breakdown service, 03-21610808.

Plusronda, 1800-88-0000. Plus Expressways Berhad's 24-hour emergency telephones are situated every 2km on the highways.

The Integrated Transport Information System provides up-to-the-minute reports on road closures and traffic announcements. It also has a complete list of telephone numbers for toll concessionaries and public transport providers. You can also view their live video streams from numerous traffic locations in and around the Klang Valley.

Similarly, if you have a smartphone, there are various free apps and mobile sites you can use to monitor the traffic situation, including Waze and Google Maps Traffic.

Safety and comfort during the drive
If you haven't already got a car seat for your baby, now's the time to buy one. Its use may not be mandated by law here, but in most developed countries, all babies must travel in an infant carrier or car seat. Toddlers sit in their child or booster seats.

This is because research has proven that children are safer in their car seats than in an adult's arms or lap. Universiti Putra Malaysia's Road Safety Research Centre, in a report on road accidents in Malaysia, acknowledges that child restraints have been shown to prevent injuries to occupants in the event of a crash. We have more information on choosing, buying and fitting them in our section on car seats.

Safety aside, this is also where your baby will be the most comfortable, especially if you are facing a long drive. Even the most devoted carer will get tired holding a baby for hours in the relatively cramped condition of a car.

Plan travel times
An increasing number of people now begin their drive home in the late evening, at night or even in the wee hours of the morning. Travel authorities encourage this by implementing toll-free periods and discounts for low-peak travel on the highways during certain hours. Watch out for these special promotions in national newspapers and other media.

To take advantage of this, you could give baby a leisurely dinner and bath, then tuck her into the car seat at her usual bedtime. Bring along a selection of her favourite lullabies. With any luck, she will be asleep before you hit the first toll booth.

You will likely still hit pockets of heavy traffic, so the usual safety precautions apply.

Take advantage of rest stop facilities
Many major highways in Malaysia have rest stop areas along them. In Peninsular Malaysia, for example, there are numerous rest stops along the North-South Expressway (NSE). For safety reasons, you may wish to skip the smaller stops and stick to bigger, busier stops, especially at night. The bigger ones, such as the Ayer Keroh and Tapah stops, are equipped with amenities and conveniences, including:

  • toilets
  • rest areas
  • restaurants, food stalls and cafes
  • souvenir shops
  • surau

These stops are great for adults to stretch their legs and take a break, but unfortunately, they are not generally child-friendly. Keep these tips in mind:
If you have toddlers or older children, never leave them unsupervised in the car.

If you are breastfeeding and are not comfortable doing so in public, you can feed your baby in the car.

Nappy-changing facilities are practically non-existent (if any, they will probably not be as clean as you would like), so you will need to do the necessary in your car as well.

Bigger rest stops may have a fast food restaurant with a kids' menu, but the local eateries in these rest stops won't have them. You may want to bring your own snacks and food.

Hope these tips also will help u guys!!! This is not meant for festive season only. Other journey also you can apply the tips.

6-Months Young Ayser Zarif

Salam and good day to all.

How's your 'puasa' today? It's already half of the fasting month. time flies super fast!

Alhamdulillah Ayser Zarif turned 6-months yesterday. Rasa cam baru je lahirkan dia. haha. Cepat btol masa berlalu. Last checkup masa dia demam last week. Berat dah 7.95kg. Tinggi x ukur la plakkan...Takper nnti ukur sendiri. His major development plak....meh kite tgk kt bwh ni...

Exploring with his hands
By the time he's about six months old (though sometimes it takes a little longer), your baby's hand control is developed enough that he can pull an object towards him. Once he's learned to grab a toy, he'll start to practice moving objects from one hand to the other. Plus, he may discover that letting go of something is as much fun as picking it up. Once he understands the concept of cause and effect, your baby's world will become more interesting ... and yours a good deal messier.

***Sangat2 suke makan tangan hokeh! Makan tangan bukan jari. Abis satu penumbuk dia nak masuk mulut. Kdg2 2-2 penumbuk nak masuk mulut. And sangat la belemuih! Grab toys ke grab sumer la dia nak grab. Ngan tudung, specs sumer dia nk grab. And Ayser Zarif dah pandai pegang botol! Sangat cute...I dunno all this while sbb kt umah DF jek. Ada one day dia demam and susu dah defrost kan...so my hubby kene bagi dia minum la kan....dia minum and pegang botol sendiri...

But nak main2 plakkan. And of course bile dia nampak mummy, dia dah xmo susu botol dah...x fresh kata nye...nk yg fresh aje....so pembaziran susu lagi...ada gak dlm 9oz yg dibuang cmtu jek.

Left or right-handed?
It's still too early to tell whether your baby is left- or right-handed. At this stage, most babies seem to favour one hand for a while and then switch to the other. True left or right-handedness won't really be determined until he's between two and three years old.

***So far tatau lagi right-handed or left-handed. Tp macam right-handed jek since both of us are right-handed.

Learning to roll over
By this age, most babies have learned to roll over in each direction, a milestone that will probably amuse you - and him. Of course, while rolling over is fun for your baby, it could wrack a few nerves for you. Keep a hand on your baby during nappy changes, and never leave him unattended on a bed or any other raised up surface. If you use a changing table, now might be a good time to start putting the changing mat on the floor instead.

***Dah terer dah pusing2 ni. Roll over and roll back sangat cpt...Mengesot pon dh bole...Now dok rajin nak ankat bontot and tangan nk merangkak plakkan. So klo dia kt atas katil mmg la kene buat kubu bantal. Kalo dia ngah tido pon kene letak bantal sbb risau dia tergolek jatuh jek.

Pastu kite dah ajar Ayser Zarif duduk. Bought a pre-loved bumbo seat and duduk kan jek dia kt situ. Kepala Ayser pon dah kuatkan....He even bole nak kuarkan diri dari bumbo seat tu...xbole bla sungguh..hehe

Your little social animal
At this age babies not only tolerate attention from others, they often initiate it. Though you may soon notice the beginnings of stranger anxiety, six-month-olds are still fairly indiscriminate: anyone who approaches your baby with raised eyebrows or a grin delights him and becomes an instant friend. But don't worry - he still needs and craves lots of attention from you.

Your baby is also learning that his behaviours, both the ones you like and the ones you don't, engage you, so starting now (and for years to come) your child will do just about anything to get your attention. Right now almost everything he does is endearing, but as he gets older, he's more likely to get into mischief to provoke a reaction from you. Just don't forget to lavish attention on him when he meets with your approval.

One thing will become clear: your baby is beginning to vary his attention-getting repertoire beyond crying. So expect him to work hard to get you to notice him by wriggling, making noises and so on. Over the next three months, he'll develop a uniquely personal way of letting you know what he thinks, wants and needs.

***Ayser Zarif dia ok ngn sumer org...so far takder stranger anxiety lagi. Dia layan jek sapa yg rajin layan dia..haha

Playing turn-taking games
Six-month-olds love turn-taking games, especially ones that involve sounds and language. Let your baby be the leader sometimes, and mimic his vocalisations. When it's your turn to lead, a good way to teach your child - and make him laugh at the same time - is to make animal noises ("quack-quack," "bow-wow" and so on).

***I selalu nyanyi nursery ryhmes kat Ayser. Tapi x ter buat plak camni kan..bole try nnti. Yang i tau, Ayser dah bole sebut "Maaa", "Amiiiiii", "Aboooo"...ngan selalu jerit2..hahaha

Your baby the babbler
By six months your baby sees and hears the world almost as well as you do. His communication skills are expanding rapidly, too, including squeals, bubbling sounds, operatic octave changes and babbling. At this age, about half of all babies babble, repeating one syllable - such as "ba," "ma," "ga," or other consonant-vowel combinations - over and over. A few will even add another syllable or two, making their sounds more complex. You can encourage your baby by babbling right back at him and by making a game of it ("The sheep says, 'baaa,'" or "The goat says, 'maaa,'" and so on), or by listening as if you understand everything he says and find it extremely interesting. Your baby can also recognise different tones and inflections and may cry now if you speak to him harshly.

A guaranteed way to delight your baby is to fill a glass three-quarters full and use a straw to blow bubbles. Both the sound and sight will make him laugh.

***My baby sorang ni susah sikit nk tengok dia gelak..suke nk control macho...paling hebat pon dia senyum nak tergelak tapi takde pon kekeh kekeh nye...puas dah...hanya babah wan dia jek yg bole wat dia gelak sakan. But babbling memang la sgt kuat...sangat kuat menjerit...haha...lagi2 klo biarkan dia sorg2 tgk tv disney junior channel tu kan...haa dia ckp le sorg2..

Stimulating his senses
Your baby uses all of his senses to explore and learn about his world. Make sure he has lots of safe things around to touch, mouth and manipulate. He'll delight in squishing a soft rubber ball, patting a piece of fake fur, gnawing a chilled teething ring and hearing a bell sound inside a stuffed animal.

***Ayser Zarif dah pandai main ngn toys dia. Tapi sumer dia nak masuk mulutkan..haaaa..mmg le kene cuci selalu. even toys yang besar pon nak masuk mulut. Rubber ball blom beli lagi utk dia. Nanti nak beli la kan.

Getting a kick out of story hour
Reading aloud to your child comes into its own now, as he will enjoy looking at bright pictures and having a quiet snuggle on your lap. No matter what your child's age, of course, reading provides an opportunity for cuddling and socialising that both baby and parent can appreciate.

***We all xde plak bedtime stories kan. Just selalu nyanyi nursery rhymes ngn zikir2 kt dia jek la...Memang dia suke aje kan. Nanti bole la buat reading kat Ayser plak. :D

Alhamdulillah...he's progressing well. This month will start solid food for him. Haha x sabar la plakkan.

Ok la enjoice reading and Happy weekend!
