The New Proton MPV

The Proton MPV has revealed itself to public..

Below are some information regarding the MPV, taken from Paultan...

I have some preliminary details on the Proton MPV due to be launched in the first half of 2009. According to a source in Proton, the Proton MPV is on schedule and one of the first chassis prototypes was shown at the Proton Technology Week.

2nd December 2008 UPDATE: Proton MPV Spyshots - photos of the actual Proton MPV being tested on public roads!

The chassis reveals quite a bit about the car. There is also a model of the interior hidden in a box with holes cut into it, much like the peekaboo promo that Proton did for its previous two models. The following are what I gathered on the MPV:

Exterior

Overall shape is like the Toyota Wish but the rear section of the roof does not slope down slightly like the Wish to improve headroom for the third row.

Tail lamps use LEDs and have a vertical design extending from the top to down, unlike the Wish’s which do not extend into the D pillar. The tail lamps are slimmer at the top but curve out a little at the bottom, similiar to the Volvo XC90’s design. The signal lamps in the light cluster are positioned towards the top for better visibility. You can actually see this in the previously revealed sketch and the teaser video above.

There is a swage line on the side profile of the MPV.

Regular swing doors instead of sliding doors.

The spare tyre is installed outside under the chassis instead of kept in the car so that you can get access to it easily when the luggage space is occupied.

Interior

The peekaboo box revealed a two-tone beige interior, but sources in Proton say the colour of the interior has not been finalised. It may be either beige or grey.

Luggage space is not that great with the third row of seats in place, but can fit one large golf bag. This means balik kampung with 7 people loaded and luggage for 7 will be a challenge.

Second row splits 60:40 while the third row is a 50:50 split. The seats fold flat.

Interior roof height is designed to be quite decent to accomodate people who want to ride with songkoks and turbans.

The shifter uses a gated shift and is dashboard-mounted rather than mounted between the front two seats, a common modern trend with MPV-like vehicles.

The in-car entertainment is a 2-DIN unit. There are options for a DVD player with an LCD display for the movie mounted at the second row roof area. There is also an option in the future for GPS navigation.

The 2-DIN head unit is at the top of the center dash area below the aircond vents, and below it comes the air conditioning controls which are three knobs arranged in a triangle shape. Below that is the shifter.

There are aircond blowers for the second and third row situation at the top left and right of the cabin roof (near the grip handles). Proton source says after testing this produced the best airflow.

There is no armrest between the front two seats but the armrest is instead a fold-down type integrated into the seat itself.

Chasis

The wheelbase of the chassis is estimated to be more than 2,700mm but less than 2,800mm. In comparison, the Honda Stream has a wheelbase of 2740mm, the Wish is 2,750mm, the Innova 2,750mm, the Livina 2600mm, and the Mazda5 2750mm.

The front suspension design uses MacPherson struts and the rear design uses a torsion beam to minimize suspension system intrusion into cabin.

The front end is designed, supplied and assembled as a single module for weight reduction and ease of installation to minimize QC problems.

The MPV is said to have very good crash safety design from Proton internal crash tests. A few MPVs will be sent for official crash testing and rating soon.

So there you have it. If you want to look at the interior and chassis for yourself you can head to the Proton Technology Week event tomorrow. The event is happening at the Proton plant in Shah Alam. On the KESAS highway heading towards Klang, turn left after the Center of Excellence and then turn left into the Proton plant.

Our very Own Submarines

KAPAL DIRAJA (KD) TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN

Finally, we have our own submarines armada fleet.

Malaysia has ordered two type Scorpene submarines with electric and diesel powered engine developed by DCN Shipyard International (DCNS) based in France. The first submarine has been completed and commissioned on 27th Jan 2009 as KAPAL DIRAJA (KD) TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN. It will arrives in our waters in August this year. While the second sub KAPAL DIRAJA (KD) TUNKU ABDUL RAZAK is still under construction due to complete mid of 2010. Let's hope that no one accidentally sink our sub during it's journey back home.

The two submarines will be used in various missions such as coastal surveillance, collecting surveillance data, first line defence in our waters, torpedoes & missiles strikes and also the detonation of sea mines.

It also said that the submarines are equipped with six torpedo tubes, which can fire simultaneously, anti-ship surface missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes. The vessel has the capacity to carry 10 torpedoes and 30 mines, it added.

Some people view the purchase of these submarines as a waste of government money. They will be proven wrong when we are under attack and in war, like the Palestinian are facing now. Defenceless...

Let's give this a thought..

30/1/09 : Hmm.. i musn't be too harsh.. so let's correct this.. Let's hope that the purchase of these sub are accordingly to law with no poliitcal or personal interest i.e Transparent.. O.K

America is not the enemy to the Muslim World?

Barrack Hussein Obama... A historical moment and event the whole world witness.

The name itself has some sort of significant to the Muslim communities. Most people take this for granted. But let's look at facts.. 'Hussein' or other Muslim related names are norms to African American. This root back to their fore-fathers back when they are still slaves.

Nevertheless, I hope that this particular name and it's bearer will bring 'fairness' to the muslim world.

Qouted from Berita Harian 28/01/09:

Presiden mahu kunjungi kota negara Islam sampaikan mesej

– AFP

This is Indeed a good action taken by Pres. Barrack Obama. But he needs to bear in mind that words alone will not change anything.

Let wait and see what will actually happen in the first 100 days of Obama's management.

Then, I met some new staffs as well and we met the HR personnel to report duty, filled up the form needed and they briefed us some of the things that we need to know there. Around 11.00am, we went to HTV 2, our office. There, we met our immediate supervisor and he did the briefing. After that, we didn't know what to do, just wait until the time to go back....

Day 2
I brought my lappy cos I have to wait my laptop about 3 weeks to get the company's laptop. Then, our big boss came in and had a meeting and assigned us some work to fill up our time. We had to study about the RFP and proposal given to us and present what we understand on the requirement and the solution by next week. For me, I had to do extra reserach and study as this industries is about telecommunication and network and I have no idea about that. I only know basic computer network. So, it's a bit pressure for me to understand in a week time everything.

Cry for GAZA!!!

Rockets from Lebanon hit Israel amid Gaza offensive

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Several rockets fired from Lebanon struck northern Israel on Thursday, slightly wounding two people, police and medics said, in attacks seen as linked to Israel's war on Hamas Islamists in the Gaza Strip.

Israel hit back after a first salvo with artillery shells in what an Israeli army spokesman described as "a pinpoint response at the source of fire" -- a limited military reaction that appeared to signal a desire to avoid escalation.

Three hours later, Israeli emergency services said at least one more rocket had landed. There appeared to be no casualties.

There were no reports of casualties in Lebanon.

It was not immediately clear whether Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas -- against whom Israel fought a 2006 war -- or Palestinians fired the rockets in a new challenge to the Jewish state on the 13th day of a Gaza campaign.

Lebanese security sources said they felt it was unlikely Hezbollah fired the salvoes, which came from an area controlled by U.N. peacekeepers and the Lebanese army, about 3 km (two miles) north of the border. Hamas sources in Lebanon denied involvement.

In the Gaza Strip, Israeli aircraft bombed targets across the Hamas-ruled territory, killing three militants and a woman. A civilian was shot dead during an army raid in southern Gaza.

U.S. backing for a truce proposal raised expectations of an end to an onslaught that has killed more than 600 Palestinians.

Israeli forces have been on alert in the north, anticipating that Hezbollah or Palestinian groups could fire rockets into northern Israel and lend support to Hamas and the Gaza Strip's 1.5 million inhabitants. Some 4,000 Hezbollah rockets hit Israel in the 2006 conflict.

"We took into account there would be an attempt by Palestinian groups to express solidarity," Israeli cabinet minister Shalom Simchon said after the rocket attack.

Shi'ite Hezbollah has not opened fire since Israel started bombarding the Gaza enclave on Dec. 27 with the declared aim of halting Hamas rocket attacks.

Palestinian groups in Lebanon have also been known to fire rockets and Israeli military affairs commentators said it was more likely they were responsible for the rockets that hit the Israeli resort town of Nahariya and three other locations.

One rocket punched a hole in the roof of a home for the elderly in Nahariya. The Magen David Adom ambulance service said two people were slightly wounded and several were treated for shock after what police said were at least three rocket strikes.

HEAVY BOMBARDMENT

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli police shot and killed a Palestinian who tried to set fire to a gas station at a Jewish settlement, an Israeli rescue service said. Police confirmed the shooting but not the man's condition.

Residents in Gaza described an overnight bombardment to the east of the city as among the heaviest in the offensive. In the south of the territory tanks advanced closer to the town of Khan Younis, witnesses said.

Although Israel pressed on with the offensive, it said it accepted the "principles" of a European-Egyptian ceasefire proposal. The United States urged Israel to study the plan.

Israel's assault resumed after a brief pause on Wednesday to help Gaza's inhabitants stock up on much-needed supplies.

Twenty Palestinians were killed on Wednesday, medics said, including three children in an air strike on a car. The total Palestinian deathtoll was at least 661, according to medical officials.

U.N. officials have said a quarter of the Palestinian dead were civilians, while other accounts put that proportion higher.

Ten Israelis have died in the past 13 days, seven of them soldiers, including four killed by "friendly" fire.

With both George W. Bush's outgoing administration and President-elect Barack Obama speaking out on the need for peace, officials said Israel would send an envoy to Cairo to discuss how the Egyptian plan might be implemented.

That may take several days. In the meantime, Israeli military commanders appear determined to keep up the pressure on the ground, even if a decision on whether to launch a new phase by targeting militants in Gaza's urban centres was put off.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice echoed Israel's concerns that a deal must achieve its goal of stopping the Hamas Islamists who rule Gaza from hitting Israel with rockets.

"It has to be a ceasefire that will not allow a return to the status quo," she said.

Hamas said it was looking at the Egyptian plan, brokered by France, which addresses Israel's demand that the militant group be prevented from rearming through smuggling tunnels from Egypt. The proposal also addresses Hamas's call for an end to Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Tuesday's killing by Israeli shells of 42 people, including women and children sheltering in a U.N.-run school in Jabalya refugee camp, intensified international pressure on Israel to call a halt. U.N. officials denied an Israeli army account that militants had been firing from the school.

Israel has said it will press on until Hamas can no longer hit its southern towns with rockets. Israeli leaders face a parliamentary election in a month and will want to show the public that they have met that objective.

However, U.S. involvement of the kind that helped end the Lebanon war and which was perceived as absent in the first week of the Gaza fighting may indicate that, whatever the state of combat on the ground, a ceasefire could be on the cards.

Some Israeli analysts say Israel faces a deadline to wrap up its campaign by the time Obama is sworn in, or risk a strain in ties with Washington at the outset of the new administration.

European governments have proposed backing the Egyptian ceasefire proposal with an EU force along the Gaza-Egypt border that would prevent Hamas, which seized control of Gaza in 2007, from rearming through its many tunnels.

Hamas called off a six-month ceasefire late last month, accusing Israel of breaking an agreement to ease supplies.
